Kylie Minogue `breathless` over cancer remission
Kylie Minogue says she loses her breath when she thinks about being in remission for cancer.
The star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and took a break from the music industry while she received treatment for the illness. Kylie will have been cancer-free for five years next year and while she is planning to acknowledge the landmark date, she admits it will drag up a whole host of feelings.
"It actually makes me almost lose my breath when I think about it because it`s such a big deal. I will definitely be celebrating but it will be such a mixture of emotions, it really will. We will see," she said in an interview with Sky News. "When I look back I am kind of amazed that I went back on stage so quickly. I know that I needed to do it, but if I see footage from then I just think, `Oh my god.`
"You know it just makes me think of all the incredible specialists and doctors and nurses and people sending letters. You feel so kind of alone and small and vulnerable at that time and yet you actually associate yourself with so many people."
Kylie also spoke about her new album Aphrodite, saying she is thrilled with the up-tempo dance songs she has recorded. Although the 42-year-old star initially intended to go into the studio and record a much simpler record, she soon realised she was missing out on the positive vibe usually associated with her songs.
"This is really a return to form I suppose, it is joyful and uplifting. It seems to have been well-received, so that is good," she added. "We were thinking of going a more organic route, which is fine to a point, it was great to be reminded of songs without the production. But then I just thought, `Where is the dance music?` I felt a little lost, then we got Stuart Price on board and from then on it became a feel good experience."
